VALE V50.1

SUPERSONIC POINT-DEFENSE FIGHTER

SPRING 2019

Since the early years of supersonic flight, only a handful of aircraft designs have featured a dorsal jet intake (placed above, rather than below or aside, the fuselage).

Forward visibility from both the cockpit and nose radar was exceptional, and both were easily accessible for mechanics. Furthermore, the intake had space for a large variable-area system while keeping the engine safe from ingesting ground debris.

However, in spite of the dorsal configuration’s several advantages, no production aircraft ever featured one.

What if these benefits were applied to a contemporary supersonic interceptor?

The VALE V50.1 is my exploration of this design potential. ▨
